The main problem is that an air mattress does not properly support the curvature of your spine. There isn’t really any kind of portable mattress that will fix this problem, even the Aero beds don’t do it for me, but there is something you can do: Try sleeping with your knees elevated so your back lays flat. Either put a couple pillows under your knees or scoot down on the mattress and prop your legs up on a camp chair. I have back problems from a car accident when I was 16 and this works great for me when camping.

Not so much of what you are sleeping on; try putting something(small pillow) between your legs. This straightens and relieves the back/spinal cord.
